| Description | The Japan Society fosters mutual understanding between Japan and the United States by bringing individuals and organizations together in programs devoted to the arts, education, public affairs, and business. Regular events at the Society include lectures, conferences, language classes, teacher and student programs, film series, gallery exhibitions, and performing arts events. Japan Society is a private, nonprofit, nonpolitical institution. | |
| Teaching Resources | Education Programs at Japan Society offers an interactive, comprehensive web resource for educators (aboutjapan.japansociety.org). This site features lesson plans, annotated hands-on materials for in-class use, maps, reviews and a glossary of key terms. The core of the website is a set of materials created in collaboration between Japan Studies specialists, professors of education, K-12 teachers and Japan Society staff. | |
| Program Activities | Education Programs is committed to improving education on Japan in elementary and secondary schools, and offers a wide variety of activities and resources. Programs for K-12 educators include intensive 30-hour academic courses on Japan, 1-day workshops, and a three-week study tour to Japan for K-12 educators, as well as a study tour to Japan for Professors of Education and education policy makers. Programs for students include a student docent program, gallery lessons, introductions to the arts and culture of Japan, as well as a two-week summer immersion workshop. Programs for families include first-hand Art Cart experiences, and celebrations of Japan’s Annual Festivities. | |
