| Description | The International Education Consortium is a program of the Cooperating School Districts, which is a service agency serving 49 school districts in the eastern half of Missouri. The mission of the IEC is to provide professional development opportunities for K-12 teachers of the humanities (including history, language arts, foreign languages, and the arts) with an international and multicultural focus. A Continuing IEC emphasis is to provide a variety of opportunities for teachers in China and Japan. These programs have included yearlong seminars, curriculum, development and travel to East Asia. |
| Teaching Resources | IEC operates a Teacher Resource Center which contains books, videos, periodicals, and curriculum materials developed by local teachers as well as commercial publishers and outreach groups. |
| Program Activities | IEC programs for 2000-2001 include an 18 month long travel seminar on China funded by the Freeman Foundation, participation in the Mid-South Japan project funded by the United States Japan Foundation, forums on African-American Academic Achievement and social studies assessment funded by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, as well as collaborative workshops with cultural and community agencies such as the Saint Louis Arts Museum. |
