Roundtable: Crisis in the AAS: What the Regional Conferences Can Tell Us
Organizer and Chair: Frank L. Chance, University of Pennsylvania
Discussants: Thomas W. Burkman, State University of New York at Buffalo; Robert Entenmann, St. Olaf College; Frank L. Chance, Pacific University; Mao Chen, Skidmore College
The national organization of the Association for Asian Studies is currently approaching a state of crisis in terms of membership, publications, and development. The nine regional conferences face similar problems, but have developed creative solutions adapted to their regional differences; their input has also been helpful in such national considerations as the continuing role of Education About Asia. This roundtable will introduce such recent developments among the Conferences as the online journal e-ASPAC, and will provide a forum for further consideration of the relationship between the national AAS and the nine regional conferences.
