Roundtable: Getting Out the Words: Publishing for Foreign Language Educators

This roundtable will review the state of publishing in the foreign languages field, with a focus on the Asian languages. Participants will describe the current state of textbook and course materials publishing as well as of research dissemination both in print and on-line; predict the future of publishing in the foreign languages field; and offer advice to teachers and scholars who wish to have their work reach the widest possible audience. The panelists will include publishers of foreign language textbooks and other materials as well as editors and editorial board members from both print and on-line journals. Their comments and predictions, and an extensive Question-and Answer session, will focus on trends in the publishing industry and and on how potential authors can best approach publishers and present their work for publication. Publishers and journals represented are Cheng & Tsui Company, Kodansha International, "Foreign Language Annals," "Heritage Language Journal," and "Japanese Language and Literature."
