Discussion will center around the Internet as it operates inside Indonesia and as it involves Indonesians living abroad. Within Indonesia, participation in the Internet includes government, businesses, NGOs, and individuals. We will talk about the apparent direction of this development and consider the impact of telecommunications on Indonesian society and politics. Many Indonesian students studying abroad participate in virtual communities online, and we will discuss both the past and possible future of these networks. Other topics for discussion include: the experience of journalists, both Indonesian and foreign; an overview of the scholarly and activist nets on Indonesia; and special problems of discussing East Timor online.
