We would like to offer congratulations to the following persons who were elected to the various AAS officer and council positions. Due to overwhelming member approval, this year’s ballot was again made available online. Voting results were compiled electronically and polls were closed at midnight November 6, 2007.
As always, the races for nearly all positions were very close, but there were no ties as was the case last year. A total of 1,779 ballots were cast, representing a high turnout of 26.7% of the membership (previous elections were nearly always around 22%). No doubt a couple of email reminders near the deadline encouraging members to vote helped to increase the numbers. We will try to further refine the ballot format for use in the future.
Elected candidates will assume office in 2008 following the Atlanta meeting. The chairs of the five councils will serve on the Board of Directors, with each council electing its own chair for the following year from among its active council members. Newly elected council members are welcome to attend their spring council meetings following election, but their terms of office do not officially begin until after that annual meeting.
We would like to sincerely thank all candidates for agreeing to run for election. Their willingness to devote considerable time and energy in serving the AAS is greatly appreciated and indispensable.
